What is an AFOL? An Adult Fan of LEGO® products, yes, but how would you describe one to someone outside the LEGO Community? Can you do it in under 2 minutes? In a Brickfilm using LEGO elements and stop motion animation?

The company Futuristic Films is currently working on Brickumentary, a documentary to showcase the amazing work that can be done with LEGO pieces. What better way to do so than to highlight work by a Brickfilmer?

Whether you consider yourself to be an AFOL or not, how would you bring to life in a short film what it means to be an AFOL? Don’t be afraid to have a little fun with it…

The best submission or arrangement of a few top picks will be considered for play time in the final film, or featured on the film's website.

For more details, please read the rules in short as well as the Official Rules and Regulations at the bottom of this post. You can post your questions as comments on this blog post or email

  • To submit an entry:  The video must be uploaded to YouTube (videos submitted from other sources, such as Vimeo or Flickr might not play on ReBrick and will inhibit voting) and then bookmarked in the Building Challenge category.  Make sure to add the extended link and not the short URL (on YouTube choose ‘share’ and then fold down ‘options’ and check the ‘long link’ box), otherwise the video wouldn’t play on ReBrick.
  • Entries must incorporate the theme of “What is an AFOL?”.
  • The contest begins August 1st 2013 at 9:00 A.M. Eastern Standard Time (EST) (that’s 3:00 P.M. Central European Time (CET). Entries submitted to ReBrick before this date and time will not be accepted into the contest. The competition is open for submissions until August 30th 2013[u1]  at 8:59 A.M. EST (2:59 CET).
  • Video must be less than 2 minutes long.
  • Videoes must use elements from the LEGO collection in a stop motion animation.
  • You must capture your film using these specifications: 1920 x 1080 H.264 MPEG @ 24fps (23.98).
  • Any LEGO Minifigures featured in your film should only be from LEGO Group created IPs, such as LEGO City, Knights and Kingdom, etc. and should NOT be from a LEGO Group licensed set such as Star Wars or Harry Potter.
  • A team of judges will review all and select one (1) grand prize winner,  and one (1) second place winner. These winners will be reviewed based on creativity, originality and theme.
  • The jury will consist of:
    • Peter Espersen, Online Community Lead
    • Brickumentary Film Directors
  • Official Judging will begin at 9:00 A.M.  EST (3:00 P.M. CET) on September 2nd 2013 and will end at 9:00 A.M. EST on September 6th 2013 (2:59 P.M. CET).
  • Entries must only contain elements from the LEGO® collection and no customized parts. Any use of the LEGO logo will also result in disqualification.
  • Entries must not use copyrighted music or sound effects. Make sure you have the rights to use any audio in your video.
  • All entries and entrants must follow the ReBrick House Rules.
  • We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not follow the official rules. Any form of cheating will result in a banning of user profile from ReBrick.

Hope y'all enjoy our entry.

It was fun to make!

Hi @KurtFreeman, using pieces with include the LEGO logo is premitted, so long as the logo isn't used in a way which would imply endorsement of the film by the LEGO group. I'm not sure about your confusion with personal information, could you be more specific? If it's something in the official rules, please keep in mind these are the rules we repurpose for all LEGO Competitions.

@Bodville We mean up to 2 minutes, and like The LEGO Movie competition, that doesn't include credits. Sorry for the misunderstanding! :)

by bodville
"Video must be less than 2 minutes long."

Up to two minutes in length or it must be less?
Does that include any credits or titles or can I have a few seconds to thank any helpers?

by KurtFreeman
If I was to use a Lego piece that had the Lego logo on it, for example a Lego set with a mini Lego set box. Would that disqualify me. I am also confused on the personal information part.
