Although it might be a month late, we wanted to take a blog post (or three) to feature the winners of our first Building Contest. For this blog post, we’ll look at “Who is the Winner? :D” and the builder behind it, CK (Chiukeung).
“When I saw the competition announcement from Rebrick, I was so excited that there was a chance to get an LIT (LEGO® Inside Tour) exclusive set. I started to think about the topic related to the contest, and an Octopus was the key element,” Explains CK. “Back to June, “UEFA 2012” (Union of European Football Associations) was a hot topic, and that inspired me to build a LEGO Octopus that was trying to guess the winner of UEFA (just like Paul the octopus did in Worldcup2010).”
“I started to design how the octopus looked like, how to fit in a 32x32 baseplate. An octopus in real life looks ugly, so I would like to present it with a cutie look. A pair of big eyes would be nice and made the octopus looks good and friendly. I took a few days to choose the design and took another two days for building, took photos and published to the websites.” He writes.
Once the building and publishing process was over, the greater challenge began. CK admits that his primary strength is building, and found it difficult to explain to people how to vote for his entry.
“I mainly posted my link on my Facebook and hoped that my hundreds friends would take the action or share to their friend as well,” He explains. “Also I asked most of my colleagues in my office to vote, and this was the most effective way to get supports.”
CK’s build landed him first prize in the Building Competition on July 16th with 135 total votes. His prize was the 2012 Inside Tour exclusive set (4000012), signed by the set designer Melody Caddick.
“I waited for few weeks and I received my 4000012 piper airplane on August 8th. I couldn’t wait to post the photos on my Facebook to share the happiness with my friends. I wrote a simple review and posted on local’s community forum. As a LEGO set collector, I love this set and still do not want to open it yet.”
