This is the second part in a series of posts highlighting the winners of our summer building contest, which ended last month. Since we featured our first place winner in our yesterday, today we’re focusing on our second place winner, Cthulhu Rises, by Imagination8 (Imagine).

Cthulhu Rises

I had to use octopus or squid parts to comply with the Building Challenge and a lot of things came to mind, but the one that stuck was the Cthulhu because I'd seen a few attempts at a LEGO® Cthulhu and wanted to see if I could build one that looked cool,” explains Imagine.  “I built the MOC in a couple of days, probably about 10 hours [total].”

And how did Imagine share his build? “Spamming! It's fun! Except when Flickr shuts down your Flickr Mail when you send out too many messages to your contacts,” writes Imagine, perhaps citing personal experience. “Well, technically I wasn't spamming, since I was sending a separate message to each of my contacts, but it did take a long time. Lots of my friends there were really nice about it and glad to help with a vote. I also made some flyers to hand out to my gaming friends and my LUG.” Imagine’s build won second place with 107 likes on July 16th. As his prize, he received the LEGO® Creator Fire Brigade (10197) signed by the designer Jamie Berard. Once Imagine got it…

“I built it! And then I let my Cthulhu play with it.”

And oh my, who is that Cthulhu is holding?

Apparently it’s the highest honor to be tossed around by Cthulhu.  Aside from Signe, Clhulhu also seems to be enjoying the firefighters.

“I'm glad I had an excuse to build a Cthulhu. He's one of my favorite MOCs,” writes Imagine. “The large one inspired me to build a little Cthulhu too, called Cthulhu Bite.”
