Built between 1940 till 1962 the LBB purchased 150 of these vans, with a capacity of 12 Tons they proved to be a versatile design able to carry a wide variety of loads. The original G12 vans had planked ends as well as the sides, from 1976 onwards it was decided to replace the wooden ends with corrugated steel as the wagons went in for repairs. Only 80 wagons received the upgrade as the introduction of container traffic lessened the need for freight vans. The remaining 70 wagons were left in original condition, of those about 20 of them survive today with the rest of them being retired or written off.
